This Popular Italian Restaurant Is Closing Its Doors For Good And Fans Are Heartbroken

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Even your favorite restaurants must close out and issue one final check to their diners. According to a post on the restaurant's Facebook page, the beloved Domenico's Restaurant, which has been operating since 1967, will shudder its doors on June 29, 2025. Levittown, New York residents and fans of the local eatery are heartbroken that their go-to spot for authentic Italian dishes is saying farewell and they are showing love and support in the Facebook comments on Domenico's closing announcement.

Last year, a number of beloved chain restaurants faced closure due to economic uncertainty, and a rough bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic. While several of these casual dining or fast food establishments have been able to scale down operations in order to make ends meet, individual restaurants like Domenico's do not have multiple franchises to keep the company afloat. Now, in 2025, more restaurants could be potentially closing down at the same time you could end up paying more for food overall.

The rising cost of food is impacting restaurants

You might have noticed that when you are at the supermarket these days that your groceries have gone up in price due to inflation, supply chain issues, and other economic factors impacting food costs. In fact, the U.S. Department of Agriculture found that in 2024, food-at-home prices went up 1.2%. While there are clever ways to save money on your grocery shopping bill, purchasing food ingredients and supplies for restaurants is much harder keep up with — thanks, in large part, to cost hikes on mainstays.

This makes it harder for restaurants to continue to provide customers a reasonably priced, quality meal. To make matters worse, the 2025 James Beard Foundation's Independent Restaurant Industry Report discovered that restaurants that increased their prices by 15% or more in 2024 lost out on profits, customers, and a reputation for being able to provide a great meal for a reasonable cost.
