How Much Money Robert F. Kennedy Jr Inherited From His Family Trust
Robert F. Kennedy Jr was officially confirmed as the Secretary of Health and Human Services on February 13th, 2025, despite strong vocal opposition on behalf of many concerned politicians in the Democratic party. Their concerns largely stem from Kennedy's controversial stance on vaccines, which have put him in a rather contentious position amongst the Democratic party of which he used to call home. Regardless, Kennedy has beaten the odds and managed to land himself in the office that oversees the health agencies of the country.
Both the son and nephew of two of the most prolific politicians in American history (Bobby Kennedy Sr. and JFK), RFK Jr. led a very successful career in his tenure as an environmental attorney. So despite the massive reported credit card debt that he is currently facing as a result of his unsuccessful independent run for presidency, Kennedy is more well off financially than some would have you think. After all, seeing how successful his father and uncle were as politicians (as well as other prominent figures within the Kennedy dynasty), it wouldn't be farfetched to assume that RFK Jr. indeed comes from a lot of money. That being said, let's take a look at exactly how much money Robert F. Kennedy Jr inherited from his family trust to find out.
How much money is RFK Jr worth?
According to Forbes, Bobby Kennedy Jr. currently has a net worth of $15 million dollars. However, other sources cite that his net worth could be as high as $30 million dollars. Regardless as to which of these figures is true, there's no question that the nephew of the late U.S. president JFK is certainly more financially well off than most. But exactly how did RFK Jr. manage to amass all this wealth?
As previously mentioned, RFK Jr. led a successful career as an environmental attorney. After graduating from Harvard, he began his legal journey as an assistant district attorney for the Manhattan DA. However, he only spent one year in this position, and the rest of his career was spent litigating various high-profile cases as an environmental attorney. One of his most prominent cases was when he litigated against Monsanto and parent company, Bayer, claiming that certain herbicide products they sold had inadvertently caused a man to develop cancer after using them for over a decade. Kennedy argued that Monsanto had failed to disclose any dangers of using these herbicide products, and he ended up winning the case, settling for a whopping $2 billion dollars. Now while the exact percentage of these proceeds that Kennedy took home from this case have not been publicly disclosed, it can be safe to assume he earned quite the pretty penny.
RFK Jr.'s inheritance
Outside of the money RFK made during his career as an environmental attorney, the bulk of his current net worth comes from a variety of different sources. These include (but are not limited to) real estate properties, investments, and different bank accounts that he currently owns. Also, theres no doubt that the Kennedy dynasty accumulated a great deal of wealth over the years (given the success of family members like RFK Sr. and JFK), so it can be safe to assume that RFK Jr. must've been gifted a decent amount of money from an inheritance of some sort. But exactly how much was it?
In order to manage the vast amount of wealth that was generated by the Kennedy family, Joe Kennedy (father to RFK Sr. and JFK) started the Kennedy trust which is rumored to be worth as much as $400 million dollars. However, later estimates by Forbes have deemed the Kennedy family's fortune to be closer to $1 billion dollars today. Regardless of the amount, the money RFK Jr. he inherited from the trust had to be split between him and his 10 siblings. Knowing this, Bobby Jr. himself was left at the time of inheritance with $4 million dollars in assets.
