In-N-Out Is Opening More Locations Across The Country In 2025. Here's Where
In 2023, the Western American restaurant icon In-N-Out Burger celebrated a landmark 75th anniversary. In more than seven decades, the company has grown to include 400 locations in eight states — California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Texas, Colorado, and Idaho. More than 38,000 employees work for the family-run burger restaurant today.
The In-N-Out Burger chain was founded by Harry and Esther Snyder in 1948. Headquartered in Irvine, California the restaurant steadfastly refuses to franchise locations in order to maintain high quality standards. The founders stuck to this philosophy that continues to guide the grandchildren now running the In-N-Out restaurant legacy.
This philosophy has limited the company's expansion to fewer locations than peers like McDonalds, Burger King, and Steak N' Shake. Despite this, the family company still manages consistent expansion, having reached as far east as Texas. NewsNationNow reports that In-N-Out will be opening an additional five locations in 2025 and is also planning expansion into new states in 2026 and beyond.
In-N-Out company philosophy limits expansion and store closures
The company claims on its official website that In-N-Out growth has been slow relative to competing fast food restaurant chains for a good reason. An explanation lies in the two founders' early philosophy. Per the website, "Because of a rigorous commitment to quality and freshness, the company only builds stores that are located within a close proximity of their four in-house patty-making facilities. This ensures it will never take more than a single day's drive for their own trucks to deliver fresh ingredients to each restaurant."
Even with this limitation on growth, In-N-Out has plans to expand with new locations in Washington, New Mexico, and Tennessee in a few years. It is going to build an East Coast operations hub in Nashville to support this expansion. It will mark the first time residents of the Eastern U.S. have In-N-Out restaurants of their own.
There is a positive side to this measured growth of In-N-Out. Even as the company slowly opens new locations, it has only ever closed a single restaurant since 1948. The family company says that the reason for this 2024 closing had nothing to do with the Oakland, California location's success. Instead the family was concerned about "ongoing issues with crime. Our top priority must be the safety and wellbeing of our customers and associates — we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment," stated Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick in an interview.
In-N-Out confirmed expansion plans for 2025 and beyond
The In-N-Out official website details its year 2025 expansion plans. They have confirmed the opening of five new restaurant locations for this year. These new In-N-Out Burgers will be in Anaheim, Carson, and Sylmar in California, in Nampa, Idaho, and in South Salt Lake, Utah.
Previously In-N-Out had also discussed other restaurants in additional states. There was supposed to be a new location in southern Washington by 2025, according to the April 9, 2024 post on the company Facebook page. The company spokesman has not given further details on this potential store location and a revised opening time frame.
In-N-Out has confirmed additional location openings for years 2026 and 2027 already. According to NewsNationNow, the first Tennessee restaurants are scheduled for opening in 2026, along with a new restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip. Residents of New Mexico can anticipate their first In-N-Out location by 2027, per the founders' granddaughter and owner Lynsi Snyder. They will just have to watch how much money they are wasting by ordering takeout. At least In-N-Out does not seem to be charging more for extra condiments.
